In February, President Carlos Alvarado signed the Outdoor Commerce Law. This new law marks a step forward in the use of public spaces for commerce.
According to the Law, the Municipalities will be empowered to issue special licenses that allow the sale of food and beverages in public spaces such as parks, streets, sidewalks, squares.
It is of utmost importance to point out that these licenses to be granted by the Municipalities will only be granted to those who already have a Municipal Patent. On the other hand, those who choose to have a municipal license of this type must pay a fee to the Municipality. This fee may have a different value depending on the type of public space being used.
The funds collected from the payment of licenses will be used for the preservation and improvement of public spaces.
Another fundamental point that must be taken into account is the fact that the license will allow bringing in removable materials such as tables and chairs, which must be removed on a daily basis. This is due to the fact that no materials that have been used to carry out the trade may be left in public spaces.
