January 31st of 2014 was the deadline for paying the Tax on Legal Corporations without any penalty, tax which came into force on April 2012 and applies to all legal entities that are duly registered in the Costa Rican Public Registry (e.g. “S.A.”, “LTDA”, among others), as well for those corporations that are in the process of being registered or that will be registered in the future.
Paying the Tax on Legal Corporations for each registered corporation
The sole bank authorized for this tax collection is “Banco de Costa Rica”. The amounts to be paid for this 2014 period, according to article 3 of the “9024 Law”, were the followings:

Liability and fines for the non-payment of the corporation tax:
Is important to mention that the interest generated for the non-payment of this tax, starts its computation on february. The late fees are set on ¢92.50 (approximately $0.19 5) per day for corporations that are contributors and ¢46.20 (approximately $0.09 6) for corporations that are not contributors; also, the corporation legal representatives will be held responsible in case of default on the payment of said tax.
Also, in case that the tax is not duly paid, the Public Registry will not issue certifications of legal status nor will record any kind of document for the contributor.
