This week President Rodrigo Chaves, in a Public Act, finally proceeded to execute the expected Regulation to the law: “Law to Attract Workers and Remote Providers of Services of An International Character”, known as “Law of Digital Nomads“. Please find in the following link and article we published a couple of months ago regarding this Law:

From the publication of the Regulation in the Official Gazette La Gaceta, the law will finally take full effect, and therefore the filing of applications may now begin. Regarding this last, below we detail Requirements and Procedure:
a) REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURE:
Those who wish to opT for this category of the digital nomads must submit:
1. Request
2. Proof of Payment of $100.00 in favor of the Government.
3. First page of passport and page where the entry stamp is recorded.
4. Bank statements showing a remuneration of USD $3,000.00 per month for the last twelve. If it is also requested for the family group, the monthly remuneration for the last year must have been of at least USD $4,000.00
5. Affidavit
6. Certificate of Marriage or De Facto Union – When applicable
7. Birth Certificate
The procedure is as follows:
1. It begins by completing the filiation process
2. Submission of Application together with the requirements
3. Migration Authorities will have a period of fifteen calendar days to resolve.
4. Once the application has been approved, the payments established in the resolution must be met, in addition to filing proof of Medical Services Policy (It may be an international policy that covers the applicant and dependents, for a minimum amount of USD $ 50,000.00 and valid throughout the period of stay).
*Renewal: Status is granted for one year renewable for the same period. To renew you must prove to have stayed in Costa Rica for a minimum of 180 days.
b) BENEFITS
INCOME TAX BENEFITS
Beneficiaries will be exempt from full income tax. In no case will the beneficiaries be considered as habitual residents of the country for tax purposes, nor will the income they receive from abroad be considered as from Costa Rican sources.
BENEFITS RELATED TO THE IMPORT OF EQUIPMENT
The beneficiaries will be exempt from the payment of all taxes on the importation of basic personal computer, computer, telecommunications, or similar equipment, necessary to carry out their tasks or the provision of their services.
OPENING BANK ACCOUNTS
Beneficiaries will be able to open savings accounts in the banks of the national banking system.
